We always look forward to the flower of this old standard every year and it is dependable.

Rebutia albipilosa

One thing about many of these rebutias: You never have to worry about flowers. Lots of flowers.

Epicactus 'Clown'

Certainly a favorite. In our experience, not the easiest to grow but well worth it.

The white fluff isn't clouds but the white hair of other nearby crests!

Gymnocalycium pflanzii var. lagunillasense

 Gymnocalyciums are real gems of the cactus world: easy to grow, easy to get to flower, and they make very nice specimens in a relatively short while.

 The variety name is no longer accepted by botanists. It's simply G. pflantzii. I just throw in that nice long variety name as a teaser. And it's fun.

They only bloom for a short time each year, but - wow - what blooms. Well worth the wait. (Again, photos by Lynn-Marie.)

Copiapoa esmeraldana

This is a very small plant which really shriveled up a bit this winter, making it even smaller. But that doesn't stop it from flowering beyond the call of duty.

Rebutia albipilosa

This is why I've always loved the rebutias!

Echinocereus gentryi

We have several of these and  they're all blooming now. Quite impressive.

Things flower for us a little later than they do down south, but when they get around to it, they get right to it.

This is a really nice cultivar which is just stunning each year.

Epiphyllum hybrid flowers

We have about 5 different hybrids blooming at this time. The first (above) is 'Pacesetter'. The second (below) is 'Sparkling Burgundy". With these blooming, it's hard to see anything else!

The Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society met at the Rare Plant Nursery for their annual open houae this afternoon. It was a beautiful day (the rain held off until tonight), and it's always fun to see the plants he is growing.

Rebutia fabrisii

This is an old plant which is in need of attention. I need to take some cuttings and re-root them. But even if the plant is needing some care, the flowers are always dependable and fantastic.

Echinocereus scheeri subsp. gentryi

These plants are very dependable bloomers and quite cold hardy, down to 20F or so, if kept dry.

I've posted these before but I couldn't pass up posting the flowers the plants are producing now.

Our granddaughter was with us for this past week and the house seems empty without her here (She lives in California). We took two trips to Powell's (the huge book store in Portland) and she found a book she really wanted.

Mammillaria elongata 'Rufocrocea'

Mammillaria elongata is a pretty common plant, not very exciting for the experienced collector. However, this variation on the theme is quite interesting. The stems proliferate along the stem and quite regularly send off variegated and/or monstrose growth.
For those who follow our nursery, it should be noted that we are again accepting orders, but only through December 6. After that we'll be closed for the holidays.

Crested and Monstrose cacti

This week has been a week of getting our plants back into the greenhouses. One bunch that's been outside most of the summer is the crested and monstrose plants. This represents about a third of our collection which we've gathered over the years. Now it's down to getting a few larger plants in under cover, as well as a few miscellaneous flats of succulents. At that point we batten down the hatches in preparation for the winter which is going to be upon us all too soon.

Copiapoa malletiana

With the common name "Copiapoa de Carrizal" and a flurry of synonyms (Echinocactus malletianus, Copiapoa carrizalensis, Copiapoa dealbata), this is another wonderful copiapoa from the Atacama Desert in Chile. The photo, which was taken just a couple of weeks ago, is of a small plant in a 4" diameter pot. The flowers are yellow (the remains of one is at the top) and the new spines are black.
