Gymnocalycium pflanzii var. lagunillasense

Gymnocalyciums are real gems of the cactus world: easy to grow, easy to get to flower, and they make very nice specimens in a relatively short while.
The variety name is no longer accepted by botanists. It's simply G. pflantzii. I just throw in that nice long variety name as a teaser. And it's fun.
For those of you in the Portland, Oregon area...hold those dates: July 18, 19 & 20. Those are the dates for the Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society Summer Show and Sale. Check it out here, and I hope to see you there.
Enjoy your plants!

Gymnocalycium pflanzii var. lagunillasense

I don't think the variety name is accepted on this plant any more. Let's just say that there's some variation with the species. Regardless of the name, it flowers beautifully every year.

Gymnocalycium pflanzii

This is an old specimen of Gymnocalycium pflanzii, originally sold to us as a seedling  as var. lagunillasense, one of the many varieties and forms which have from time to time given to this highly variable species, but which are no longer accepted by most. It's a very impressive plant with a very nice large flower. It's native to Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina and grows very easily as a potted specimen. Will burn if given too much sun, but appreciates fairly frequent watering during the warmer months.
