Spring has Sprung!

Spring has definitely arrived...and with weather which is more akin to Summer than Spring. We've been in the 80'sF for several days in a row now...quite unusual for the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.
But, I'm not worried; rain will return, of that you can be sure!

Spring can't be too far away!

The early spring flowers are coming on with gusto now: snowdrops, crocus, daffodils, forsythia and camellias.
And in the greenhouses, the aloes continue to bloom and some of the cacti are showing their buds.
And so it goes. Another cycle comes around and it's just as wonderful as the last. I may be 71 but I'll never get tired of it. There's plenty I do get tired of - wars, intolerance, fear and hatred, to name a few - but the breaking forth of the seasons' beauty - never!

Lithops hookeri var. dabneri C13

For those of you who are growing just Lithops, winter can be a rather boring time. But now...the mouths are beginning to open and the new leaves begin to emerge. Slowly building excitement. (Some of my friends would say it's about as exciting as watching grass grow, but I strongly disagree.) This may be slow, but it's not boring. This is a group of Lithops hookeri var. dabneri ex. C13.
We're beginning to get a little early Spring, while the Central and Eastern parts of the U.S. are suffering under a severe winter storm. In fact, it's been colder in Tucson than it is here for the last few days...but that will change soon enough. Saw our first daffodil flower yesterday!!! Yes!

Spring is on it's way!

Proof positive: Spring is coming! The "Snowdrops" are popping up everywhere. Not long before the tulips bloom. We feel for those of you in the mid-Atlantic area of the country who got as much as 3 feet of snow yesterday; but we unabashedly celebrate the really great weather we've been blessed with. Time to start planting those tomato seeds so we can set them out at the right time.

Sorry for the Absence

I will blog some photos tomorrow! I promise. I've been totally tied up trying to get the upgrade for our nursery website completed that I just haven't been getting to the blog.

However we did get out for a drive with Ladybug the mini horse. The weather was just too nice not to get out and enjoy it. Not a long ride...just three miles around the neighborhood. The daffodils and iris are coming up, the "Snowdrops" are blooming, the raspberry vines are beginning their new shoots, and buds are popping up all over in the greenhouse. Yes, yes, yes! Spring can't be far away!

It's Spring!

No pictures today. But I'll be adding some tomorrow. Our icy winter spell ended emphatically yesterday with temps around 60F and clear skies. The daffodils are coming up and some of the cacti are beginning to set blooms. More later.

Spring is Springing

We're just ending the worst cold snap we've had in a couple of years - 19 or 20F at night - but the signs of Spring are all around us. Bulbs are emerging: Snowdrops, daffodils, Iris -- some will be flowering (snowdrops, daffies) within a week or two. At the same time, the Banana Trees have been hit pretty hard, but they'll come back later this spring, and one of the Aloes we were experimenting with bit the dust.

I don't know about you, but I'm ready for Spring! Heating is just too expensive this year.

Now I know our cold is peanuts compared to some of you. Please, share your experience with growing succulents in cold weather areas. We'd love to hear from you.
