Epiphyllum hybrid flowers

We have about 5 different hybrids blooming at this time. The first (above) is 'Pacesetter'. The second (below) is 'Sparkling Burgundy". With these blooming, it's hard to see anything else!

The Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society met at the Rare Plant Nursery for their annual open houae this afternoon. It was a beautiful day (the rain held off until tonight), and it's always fun to see the plants he is growing.

Euphorbia millotii flowers

The flowers on this species may range from yellowish-green to pink. These are certainly on the pink end. However, since this is also the time of year that our epiphylums are flowering, they're easy to overlook. That would certainly be a mistake.

Euphorbia flanaganii flowers

One of the Medusa Head Euphorbias, this one puts out quite a display of flowers. Several of ours are flowering right now.
And we're almost ready for the OCSS show and sale. We've potted up enough plants to fill 35 or so flats, plus some specimens. Now comes the fun of transporting them all there. The show begins on Friday at 9 am and ends Sunday at 4 pm. I'll be giving a presentation on succulent plants at 1 pm on
Saturday.
This all takes place at Portland Nursery, 5050 SE Stark St. in Portland. Hope to see some of you there (specifically, those who are in the Portland area; but if you want to fly in :) we'll give you the red carpet treatment!

Aloe krapohliana var. dumoulinii

And, of course, there are the Aloe flowers. This one is Aloe krapohliana var. dumoulinii. Easy to grow if you don't water it too much, especially during the heat of summer.

Late season flowers: Copiapoa tenuissima

As can be seen in this photo, with all the old dead flowers clearly visible, this is one plant that just doesn't know when to quit. Copiapoa tenuissima isn't one of the rarer of Copiapoas, usually seen in its monstrous form, but it's easy to grow and flowers without asking.

Greenovia flower

We received this plant some years ago with no name but it's clearly a Greenovia. As to which Greenovia we're not quite sure. It hasn't been an area of expertise of extensive experience. If any of you can give me a species name I'd be delighted.

Holiday Cactus

It's that time of year and the "Holiday Cacti" (Schlumbergera) are showing their colors. We don't grow these plants commercially; we just can't resist them and they keep multiplying. Notice I didn't call them "Christmas Cactus" because they aren't. They bloom whenever it pleases them during early winter. And our care for them is pretty haphazard: they get placed under the bench where we forget all about them except to get watered once in a while. Until, that is, we glance under the bench and - lo and behold - the whole trays are filled with flowers.

Yesterday - or actually very early on Tuesday - I said I'd get back to the Echeverias today, but the photo I took turned out blurred. So...later.

I'll be getting up in about three hours to go check the greenhouses. It's quite cold out there and we're fairly low tech. Meaning that I get up at 3 or 4 in the morning to go check the heat in the greenhouses. Soooo...later.

Echeveria Flowers

When nothing much else is flowering, count on the echeverias to do their part. Been doing computer upgrades today and installing the new anti-virus software. So when I had a moment I shot these flowers in one of the greenhouses. Haven't had much time for anything else. Hope you all had a good holiday and are looking forward to a wonderful new year!

Rebutia and Copiapoa flowers

Since my last post was a "medley" of Echinopsis flowers, I couldn't resist another grouping. Sometimes I'm just wandering the greenhouses and a certain combination just strikes out at me. This is one of those cases. I couldn't have planned it better myself.

Echinopsis 'Buttercup'

I don't know about you, but I never tire of those Echinopsis hybrid flowers. This one is E. 'Buttercup'. Yes, the flowers don't last long, but they don't just flower once!

It's Spring! (In spite of those overcast skies.)

It's cooled way down now, but the plants in the greenhouses don't seem to care.
