Rebutia albipilosa

One thing about many of these rebutias: You never have to worry about flowers. Lots of flowers.

Rebutia krainziana crest

This is an old crest of a spineless form of Rebutia krainziana. It's one of my favorites of the various crests we have.

In past posts, we have said we were closing the nursery. For old plant people like us, that's easier said than done. We're again taking orders, at least for a couple of months. The listings are being updated this week, but it's a work in progress.

Rebutia heliosa

Things flower for us a little later than they do down south, but when they get around to it, they get right to it.

Rebutia fabrisii

This is an old plant which is in need of attention. I need to take some cuttings and re-root them. But even if the plant is needing some care, the flowers are always dependable and fantastic.

Rebutia albipilosa

This is one of those plants which is a show stopper whether it's in flower or not. From northern Argentina, it produces deep orange flowers around the base of the plant, and it responds well to an extra amount of pumice or equivalent in the potting mix.

Rebutia heliosa

Rebutia heliosa is one of hose plants which is impressive year around in spite of its fairly small size. But then, when it flowers!

Rebutia albipilosa: still flowering...

I just posted a picture of this species in the middle of last month. I'm posting this pic just to demonstrate one of the traits of the Rebutia genus which makes them so endearing; they don't just flower overnight and that's all, but they flower on and off throughout Spring and early Summer, and then - sometimes - again in late Summer.

Rebutia mentosa 'Swobodae'

Talk about flowers which shout "Hey, I'm over here!" It's hard to miss these flowers,or the plant for that matter.
Enjoy your plants!

Rebutia albipilosa

This is certainly the blooming season for the cacti and they're putting a good show. It's hard to keep up but I'll try. At this time of year it's hard to believe that the number one question we get at cactus shows is "How do I get my cactus to flower?"!!

Rebutia margarethae

Of all the cacti, rebutias have to be counted as one of my favorites. Flowers vary from smallish to quite large and impressive and most are quite colorful. And, they're easy to grow. What's not to like!

Rebutia 'Sunrise' - again

I know...I just posted a photo of this plant not long ago, in April. But it's flowering so prolifically right now that I just couldn't resist posting again. I think the picture says it all!
Oh..and thanks for the anniversary well wishes.

Rebutia narvaecensis

This is a nice big-flowered rebutia from Bolivia, Rebutia narvaecensis. We're having an unusually hot early May this year, getting into the upper 80s F today and it looks like we'll be dry and in the upper 70s and lower 80s for the next week or so. As a result all the cactus flowers are coming on like gangbusters. Our hearts go out to our friends in southern Cal where high winds and heat have brought on an early and destructive fire season.

Rebutia 'Sunrise'

The first of many flowers to follow on this fun, small-growing cactus. It's a hybrid of Rebutia heliosa and R. albiflora and is very dependable.

Rebutia offset

This is an offset which got placed on some potting soil, but not labeled. It just couldn't wait. (This is in the corner of a small, 3" pot.) [Lynn-Marie tells me that this was from seed and that it's Rebutia marsonii. I guess I should have asked first!]

Have a Happy Easter!

Rebutia albipilosa

I posted this earlier this summer when flowering, but now, just a closer look at the spines.

Rebutia narvaecensis

Rebutia is a wonderful and relatively easy to grow genus. They're mostly fairly small and stay that way, they flower readily and prolifically, and the variety of flower colors is fantastic. This one is Rebutia narvaecensis, the pink flowered Rebutia. From Bolivia, it's a beauty!

Rebutia albipilosa

The hummingbirds are really active right now. I was holding this up to take a picture of it and I almost swatted at a bug buzzing at my ear. Luckily I took my eyes off the view screen on the camera long enough to see that the "bug" was actually a hummingbird, about 2 feet in front of me, taking aim at the flowers. However, when it became aware that I was watching it, it flew away and gave its attention to some other flowers on the deck.
The plant I was trying to take a picture of was this: Rebutia albiflora. Enough said.

Rebutia 'Sunrise'

This lovely little cactus is a cross of Rebutia heliosa and Rebutia albiflora known as 'Sunrise'. The albiflora parentage comes out sometimes as seen below on the left. A very nice, easy to grow.
A couple of days ago I may have had my tongue somewhat implanted in my cheek (don't try to translate that!) when I said that the artichoke cactus was easy, if... But, when I say that this is easy to grow, I mean it. It gets a lot of neglect by us throughout the winter and it continues on with grace. Highly recommended.
