Rebutia 'Sunrise'

This is a really nice cultivar which is just stunning each year.

This crest ( we have a couple of them) is the first to flower for us every year, but this is even early for it. After all it's not even February yet and it's been flowering for a couple of weeks. It's our harbinger of Spring.
O yes, other signs of Spring are appearing too: the daffodils are sending up spikes of green and the snowdrops are ready to flower any day now. But those are expected at this time of year, in this area at least. But rebutia flowers this early.
I should add that one of our epicacti flowered this week too. I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Echinocereus species

We've never had the species name on this plant. It came without a tag and we haven't ever had the time (or drive) to do the research to determine the species. We're pretty sure, but we don't put a species name on a tag until we're more than "pretty sure". In the meantime we just enjoy the flowers it produces every year.

Rebutia albipilosa: still flowering...

I just posted a picture of this species in the middle of last month. I'm posting this pic just to demonstrate one of the traits of the Rebutia genus which makes them so endearing; they don't just flower overnight and that's all, but they flower on and off throughout Spring and early Summer, and then - sometimes - again in late Summer.

A Cluster of Cacti

If you've gone to our website you'll know that we are closing the nursery... as we now know it. We'll continue with periodic offerings via email and there will be information on how to opt in soon ... both on the nursery website and here on my blog. We will also do the local cactus society show and sale and some ebay offerings. The blog will also continue. And I need to concentrate on getting Lynn-Marie's art website up and running!

Mammillaria hahniana

Another of the cacti flowering at this time is Mammillaria hahniana, the "Old Woman Cactus".
We're having unbelievable May weather this year. It got into the upper 80sF again today, but it should drop into the 70s for tomorrow. Still no rain in the forecast.

Red Cactus Flowers

This photo's a little dark, but it has two, very contrasting cactus flowers in one pic: Aporocactus 'Oakleigh Conquest' and Cleistocactus tupizensis.

At this time of year it's hard to keep up with all the plants which are flowering. Our plants here in Oregon flower a little later than they do in California, but as the sunny days become more common, so also the flowers. And it is getting warmer, with another weekend in the high 80s F predicted for Saturday and Sunday.

Cactus Photos

Since we're mostly past the blooming season for the cacti, I'm going to be posting some photos we took earlier in the Spring and Summer. Along with being able to see the beautiful flowers posted by our friends in the Southern Hemisphere, posting these help keep me going as we get shorter and shorter days. We end Day Light Savings Time soon and it'll be getting dark by 4 or 4:30 each afternoon. And the evenings are getting colder - probably into the upper 30s F tonight. All the more reason to post cactus flowers. More later.
