Rebutia heliosa

Things flower for us a little later than they do down south, but when they get around to it, they get right to it.

Rebutia heliosa

Rebutia heliosa is one of hose plants which is impressive year around in spite of its fairly small size. But then, when it flowers!

Rebutia heliosa

I very much like it when the plants which are among my favorites decide to bloom. That's the case with Rebutia heliosa. The plant itself is outstanding all year, but when it flowers...it's a stunner!
I lot of time during the next week will be preparing for the first summer sale for the Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society. Nevertheless, I'll try to squeeze in a few photos along the way.

Rebutia heliosa

One of my favorite cacti of all time is Rebutia heliosa.  We don't have flowers at this time of year, of course, but I couldn't resist taking a photo of these plants whiling away the short days of winter. Even without flowers they're quite attractive I think.
From Bolivia (Tarija) in the mountains (3000 m), these little tap rooted gems get no water during our winter and get filtered sun and limited water during the summer. As long as one follows this or similar regimen these plants are quite easy to grow and are very rewarding.

Rebutia albiflora and Rebutia heliosa

We just separated out these clumps of Rebutia albiflora which are just beginning to flower. In another week or two they'll be covered in flowers.
The Rebutia heliosa plants haven't begun to flower yet, but then they're such nice looking plants to begin with:
Mix the two together and you get (or, more accurately, someone did get) Rebutia 'Sunrise' (R. heliosa x R. albiflora).
 Enjoy your plants.
