Two of my favorite Echeverias

 Our first photo for tonight is of Echeveria minima. As its name implies, it's small, but - wow! - what a stunner.

At first glance, this may seem similar to the previous E. minima. However, though also a small growing plant, this is Echeveria globulosa, also very nice.

True to its name, Echeveria 'Lotus' possesses beauty in its simplicity. No fancy frills or tempting undulations, these plants exude an understated attractiveness.

Echeveria 'Aquarius'

I guess I shouldn't have posted this one. It reminds me that it's been far too long since we've taken a drive over to the Oregon coast. And Spring is one of the best times to go there. Now all we have to do is get some transmission work done on the car...yes, the one we just bought. Cars...bah humbug!

Echeveria 'Pink Frills'

Over the next couple of days I'll post some Echeverias in their growing trays. Almost all of our plants are grown in trays rather than individual pots. This one - 'Pink Frills' - is obviously named appropriately.

Echeveria globulosa

This is a very small Echeveria, but what an outstanding form. We've been doing an inventory of our echeverias and we're adding this one.
As for local news, the Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society will be meeting this coming Sunday afternoon, 3 pm, at our house (7009 N Fiske Ave.). I'll be doing a program on haworthias, and all are welcome.

Echeveria globulosa

Echeveria globulosa is a nice, compact little echeveria, which - though small - can hold it's own in drawing attention. An outstanding plant.

Echeveria moranii

I took this snapshot of these little beauties yesterday. Today I'm just too tired! Spent the morning with a nice latte at the coffee shop, then went to the cinema to view The Hobbit with our granddaughter. After that we had a very enjoyable visit with friends from 50 years ago. He was a young boy when I first knew him and this is the first time I've seen him since. I've visited with her a couple of times since the sixties, but the last time was in the 80s. After that we went for dinner with our granddaughter (she's 15) at the Old Spaghetti Factory. And tonight, I'm just worn out. So...off to bed.

Deservedly popular and easy to grow as well.

Echeveria 'Frilly Maid'

Local notice - non-succulent

For those of you in the Portland area and are interested, most of you know that  - other than succulent plants - my other vocation has been as a United Methodist clergy - now retired. However, I'm still asked to preach on occasion, and this coming Sunday (Oct. 5) I'll be preaching at Northminster Presbyterian Church in North Portland (10:00 a.m.). You're more than welcome to come and visit.

Echeveria 'Frank Reinelt'

An absolutely gorgeous cultivar, especially at this time of year.

Echeveria 'Rubra'

This has been marketed as Echeveria agavoides 'Rubra'. This may be, but the flowers are more like those of E. pulidonis. But, whatever its heritage, it's a beautiful plant. We included it in our new plant list, but just now added the photo. You have to see it to believe it!

Echeveria 'Glitters'

The origins of this lovely cultivar are unknown, but it's lineage certainly includes E. setosa.

Echeveria 'Pappy's Rose'

 

This is one of the old time cultivars which has stood the test of time.

Echeveria 'Lola'

This has always been one of my favorites of the echeverias. The plant itself is so attractive, even without the flowers; the flowers are an added bonus.
Yesterday was almost a record temperature, reaching 72 F. All the trees and bushes and spring bulbs are suddenly alive with flowers, making this an outstanding time of the year here in the Pacific Northwest.

This clump will show more color as it's exposed to more sun this Spring and Summer. Meanwhile, with the flowers, who needs more. Wow!
