Sulcorebutia canigueralii
The flowers of this cactus are certainly jaw dropping. Sulcorebutia canigueralii is highly variable in its plant form, but the flowers, wow!

Sulcorebutia canigueralii (Syn. Rebutia canigueralii)
Wow! The bi-colored flowers of Sulcorebutia canigueralii are amazing. At least I think so. Earlier in the winter I posted a pic of the plant (without flowers). Now it's Summer, and in addition to a nice, compact, non-hazardous cactus plant, we also get these flamboyant flowers. The warmth of summer may not have arrived yet, but these flowers make up for it. Well, at least a little bit...

Sulcorebutia pulchra
According to Anderson et. al., this is the same plant as the previous post, just a representative of its variability. OK. I know they have their reasons, but I'm not convinced. I think I have a philosophical difference with them about the nature of the naming process. But that's another discussion. In the meantime I'll stick with the Sulcorebutia name and list the synonyms (including Rebutia canigueralii).
Enjoy your plants (even when you're not sure what name it should have)!

See you at the show
I probably won't have time to post much during the show & sale. I'll be loading plants out tomorrow afternoon; it'll take about three trips with our van (need to get a larger truck for this). The sale is then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I'll take photos, but I'll really be beat each evening. Next week then!
Finally, a picture of Sulcorebutia canigueralii. It's been blooming like mad and putting on quite a show.

Sulcorebutia canigueralii
One thing about this complex of plants: they're quite variable. This is from a different group of Sulcorebutia (or Rebutia) canigueralii plants. Both the plant body and the flower are quite different than those I posted during the Winter last year. I'll be posting another variation in a day or two.

Christmas Greetings!
I may not be able to blog for the next couple of days, so...a few images to brighten the season:
Whether you are Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist ... or none of the above ... I wish you peace and love in this season. And especially for those of you who visit this blog periodically, best wishes for a season of blessings and a wonderful new year.

Sulcorebutia canigueralii (or Dang it's Cold Outside!)
This is Sulcorebutia canigueralii, another archive photo. It's too cold for anything to want to flower here right now. And on top of that, one of our greenhouse heaters went out so I've been out in the greenhouse setting up some temporary heat for tonight until I can fix the other heater tomorrow. Aren't greenhouses fun? And of course, it's going to be the coldest night of the year: 15F (about -8.5C). Begone O Ye wintry arctic cold!
