Echeveria 'Lola'

This has always been one of my favorites of the echeverias. The plant itself is so attractive, even without the flowers; the flowers are an added bonus.
Yesterday was almost a record temperature, reaching 72 F. All the trees and bushes and spring bulbs are suddenly alive with flowers, making this an outstanding time of the year here in the Pacific Northwest.

An Ensemble of Echeveria 'Lola'

One of my favorites, this Dick Wright hybrid doesn't readily offset, so most propagation is from leaves. A bit slow, but worth the wait.

Echeveria 'Lola'

I've posted 'Lola' before - probably many times - but it's worth it. A Dick Wright hybrid of E. lilicina & E. derenbergii, it's stood the test of the years, and - happily - we now have enough of them that are mature enough to sell. So, it'll be going back up on our nursery list any day now.
Thus ends day 2 of shameless advertising...
On another note, if you're in the Portland area - defined broadly - you're invited to come to the OCSS (Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society) picnic and open house at our place (7009 N Fiske Ave., Portland) on the afternoon of August 26. This is a correction so, if you put it on your calendar for July???, please correct it also. And thanks for calling it to my attention :)

Echeveria 'Lola'

One of our favorites is this Dick Wright hybrid, Echeveria 'Lola'. The form is quite sculptural and consistent from plant to plant, with really outstanding flowers. Any time of the year these are impressive plants.

Echeveria 'Lola'

This is one plant I can never get enough of: Echeveria 'Lola'. Who needs flowers when the plant itself is a "flower"? And they're looking so nice right now.

Echeveria 'Topsy-Turvy' and Echeveria 'Lola'

Recently there have been a lot of plants being distributed at home and garden shows and through respected nurseries that aren't what they are labeled to be.

Yes, I know. Why am I surprised? We all know it happens all the time. It's just that in this case they're so persistent. The top photo here is E. 'Topsy-Turvy'. This is widely being sold as E. 'Lola', which is the second plant pictured. Significantly different plants. I understand labels being switched or lost and it isn't that we haven't misidentified a plant at times, but this is intentional. I've personally told vendors on several occasions and they either look perplexed as to why I care or they say "really?...we'll have to take care of that." Then, a year later, they're still selling them with the wrong name. I know some people don't care about the correct name; so be it. But these are grower/vendors, and they should care.

Echeveria 'Lola'

This is Echeveria 'Lola' and it's another one of my favorites. It makes a very impressive display - all year long.
