We picked up this Lithops at a small Mojave Desert nursery a couple of years ago. We understand that most variegation in lithops is short lived, but this has lasted through two growth seasons. The photo is by by wife, Lynn-Marie.
I wasn't very clear. It's not that the plants don't live long; it's just that the variegation usually disappears with the new set of leaves. It's the variegation that tends to be short lived. At least, according to some resources I've read.
oh i see! thanks! I misunderstood.. i didn't know about that either, very interesting, thanks since it's been like this through two growth seasons, maybe it's 'permanent' in this case? maybe it's worth cultivation :)
We don't know that that's fact and have no particular experience to support it. We're certainly hoping it's permanent. We'll grow it on through this next growth season and see what happens.
it looks so curious!
