Turbinocarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. schwarzii crest

This compact little crested and monstrose plant is Tubinocarpus schmiedickeanus ssp schwarzii. That's a mouthful! Another of those plants grafted by Lazlo many years ago. (Update, December 19: As has been pointed out, first by Lynn-Marie and then by a reader, this is a Copiapoa crest, likely Copiapoa tennuissima. My apologies for the error.)

Turbinicarpus valdezianus crest

Another example from our crested and monstrose plant collection. This is Turbinicarpus valdezianus, an old crest, beginning to show it's age.

These crests are great performers. The flowers come all at once each year for quite a display. We have several of these and they're all flowering right now.

Turbinicarpus viereckii

I should list this as Turbinicarpus aff. viereckii since the description of this plant speaks of  "flowers magenta with white throats or completely white". It's also commonly known as a Gymnocactus. Take your pick. A striking plant.

 

It's been flowering off and on for several weeks now.

Turbinicarpus ysabelae

This isn't a new posting. I posted it two years ago but I thought it worth re-posting. Turbinicarpus ysabelae isn't that common in collections but is well worth seeking out. Which all goes to show that this blog isn't just about promoting our plants at our nursery. We don't have this one for sale, though I certainly wish we did. We have this in our personal collection and we have some seedlings growing on, but - hey - we'll probably be too old to run a nursery by the time those seedlings are large enough! Enjoy.

By the way, it's also known as Gymnocactus ysabelae and Pediocactus ysabelae.
