Don't think spelling makes any difference? The genus was named
for Justus van Heurne (1577-1652) but his name was misspelled by Robert
Brown and, in accordance with botanical naming rules, Mr Heurne is forever
remembered by a misspelling of his name. This particular species has
more than it's share of names given to it also, but we'll stick with this name
for now. (The centers of the flowers are sometimes purple and sometimes mostly yellow.)
This is one of the more readily available of the huernias and is in many collections. The ease of its cultivation and the prolific flowering may well account for it.

Huernia brevirostris
This is a nice, compact little plant from Baviaanskloof in South Africa, Huernia brevirostris (DP6344A). We have a nice clump of these we've been growing on and dividing as we're able.

Huernia bayeri
Another plant that's blooming again is Huernia bayeri. We find this to be a very easy plant to grow and we like it a lot.

Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society show and sale
I'm afraid I haven't been too diligent at posting lately. My apologies. It's been a bit chaotic.
A brief re-cap:
We now have a Paso Fino horse: Jardinera de Omega. She arrived from Florida about a week and a half ago and we've been spending some time out at the stables (a few miles from us) to get to know her.
Last Sunday we took a day trip up into the mountains to Sister's Oregon and further on the Three Creek Lake up next to the Sisters Wilderness. Lucky for us, the van didn't blow it's engine until the next day. Searching for a new, used van now!
And this coming weekend, July 17-19, I'll be at Portland Nursery (5050 SE Stark St. for those in the Portland area), where we will be participating in the Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society Summer Show and Sale. Hope to see some of you there.
I can't go out to the nursery and start potting up plants for the sale until I post a new photo, this one of Huernia bayerii. Enjoy.
