Echeveria pulvinata 'Frosty'

There aren't a lot of things flowering here right now, but - thanks to the echeverias - we do have some. In this case, it's the flowers of one of the two echeveria cultivars which goes by the moniker 'Frosty'.

Echeveria pulvinata 'Frosty'

This is the other 'Frosty', and it's pretty obvious why. Like the other 'Frosty', it's a natural form which has been propagated and circulated in the nursery trade. The frosty appellation was first applied to the other "frosty", so this one is - technically - the imposter. Confused? Yes, this kind of confusion isn't supposed to happen, but it does. Sometimes it's called 'Suave' to avoid the confusion, but this doesn't seem to have caught on. Maybe we should just take to calling it Frosty II, or...the other 'Frosty'!

Echeveria leucotricha 'Frosty'

There are a couple of Echeverias which go by the epitaph 'Frosty'. One is a form of Echeveria pulvinata, which has also been named 'Suave' (as pictured in our catalog here). The one pictured today is a natural form of Echeveria leucotricha, which was named 'Frosty' by Dick Wright. It's a large grower and quite impressive.

Incidentally, the pink flowered plant in the background is flowering currant.
