After leaving Riverside and Mexican Hat, we usually make a stop at California Cactus Center in Pasadena. This nursery tends to cater to a more upscale crowd and prices generally reflect this reality. However it's a great place to see what the current designers are doing with succulents.
The next leg took us to Ojai and Santa Barbara and then on up to San Francisco, where we took a trip down memory lane and revisited Sausalito, across the bay from San Francisco, which was one of our stops on our honeymoon (today is our 44th anniversary).
We then stopped at Lone Pine Nursery (didn't take any photos) and back over to the Sacramento Valley, through the hills (Mt. Shasta below)...
and - finally - to everyone's delight - back home. Very tired. But satisfied.
(Oh! and there are two very patient and tired dogs in that photo, packed in there like sardines! And they know when we're getting close to home when we're several blocks from home.)

Back from our Trip
Just a quick note to say that we're back from our road trip - 4800 miles of driving through nine western states. Too tired to post tonight but will be back at it tomorrow. Luther

Under foot in the desert
As I said last night, we just returned from a week and a half in the Southwestern United States- specifically Arizona and California. We didn't spend much time in Arizona - that's a whole other story - and I'm not sure where Lynn-Marie took these photos...probably somewhere near the Anzo-Borrego Desert State Park in Southern California.
We exited the I-8 freeway at Ocotillo, California and went north through a stretch of the park, connecting with Highway 78 and following it over the pass and down the Carlsbad on the coast. (This is a much more interesting trip than the freeway and, considering the traffic, about as fast.)
But back to the photos, sometimes the most interesting things are right at our feet and this was no exception. Not that there weren't plants of interest; there were. And we had fun looking for some petrified wood, finding a few smaller pieces. We'll get to the plants. But for now, the hard pan beneath our feet. That's all for tonight.

Getting Ready
While we were sipping our morning lattes, Lynn-Marie commented that it seemed like it was a whole lot easier to prepare for a road trip when we were a whole lot younger. Now it seems that every step of preparation is harder than ever. So...no photos today. Too tired. Heading out on Thursday morning -- at least that's the plan!
