These are a couple of pictures of variations on a theme, the "theme" being Haworthia truncata. Both are seed grown, but show the variability within the species and the interesting variations which can occur within a group of seedlings.
The first picture is of a plant from seed which was collected from large growing plants, what used to be labeled "crassa". The second picture is one which is showing a bit of variegation.

Haworthia truncata crassa
This is Haworthia truncata var. crassa. OK, the "crassa" part isn't accepted by many, but it serves as shorthand for "the big form" of the plant. These have been grown from seed produced from two of the larger plants in David Martin's collection. We've grown them on and they've really become quite nice. Thanks David.
It looks like we're in for another cold spell, but nothing like the forecast I mentioned yesterday. It may get down to 30F or so, and maybe a dusting of snow. No big deal. In the meantime, the daffodils are blooming, along with crocus, snowdrops, etc. And the Epis in the greenhouses are beginning to set buds.

More Haworthia truncata crassa
A couple more of the same seed batch of Haworthia truncata 'Crassa'. Some very nice plants came out of this cross (a cross of two large growing truncatas).
We spent a nice quiet Halloween with our grandson handing out candy to the trick-or-treators as they came to the door. The majority of the children in this community head up a few streets to a large Victorian house which gets transformed into a Haunted House on Halloween. Admission is a couple of cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank and they must bring in thousands of cans for this good cause.
