Conophytum latum

It's not just the lithops which are flowering. This is Conophytum latum (Umdaus, north of Steinkopf) which is outright luminous. They kind of glow in the light, almost as if they had an LED light down inside them somewhere!

  2. I'm surprised Conophytum are not as popular as Lithops. I never see them for sale here, so I'm growing some from seed. They are a remarkable genus!

  3. I think part of the reason they're not as popular is because they're a bit more of a challenge. And most people think lithops are *enough of a challenge! :)

  4. Love the chartreuse green glow of this little cono! The white flowers top them off well. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for this species. In my cool winter-rain region, cono's are much easier to grow than lithops, although I have failed at growing them from seed. Never see conos for sale here either. They are even rare at C/S sales. Fortunately, Steven Hammer lives near by!!
